Mother / Son Dates

As my due date quickly approached I tried to soak up EVERY moment of each day.  I wanted to make special times with each child to show them how important they are to me before my time was quickly monopolized by a newborn.  I decided to make sure to go on a special "date" with each of them to have that fun, individualized time.
Picnic Date

My oldest son requested for his date to be a picnic!  We had been having BEAUTIFUL fall weather here and we wanted to enjoy it.  I was thinking of trying to picnic in a fun park, but my husband had been very diligently studying for his Medical Board Exam from his Fellowship (that he took only 2 days after our son was born!!!) so I was trying to also eliminate him having to watch our other boys as much as possible.  So, the great thing about a 5 year old is he thinks it is just as special to have a picnic in the front lawn!  We put his brothers down for afternoon naps, grabbed his very favorite snacks of Pears, Veggie Straws and Milk; got a blanket, a few books and off we went!

We watched the clouds, imagining what each of them looked like, we read stories, we munched on treats and we talked and talked for over an hour.  He has so many stories and such a fantastic imagination that one of my favorite things to do is to get alone time with him and just listen to him tell me stories.  These are truly the moments that I know I will look back to and treasure.

Donuts and Park Date

Our oldest two sons go to Catechesis of The Good Shepard one morning a week at a wonderful women's home in our community and it leaves our youngest son with the unique opportunity of having a morning alone with Mommy!  We took the time instead of running errands and getting stuff done, to just hang out he and I.  We went and got chocolate sprinkle donuts and went to his favorite park to play.  We had a blast just the two of us!

Dinner Date

My middle son and I have truly had the fewest opportunities to have special time together over the years (poor middle child syndrome), so I wanted to make sure that his Mommy / Son date was something really special.  We do not go out to eat as a family that often, but when we do one of our favorite family places is Chili's!  Well our community Chili's was having a Mom & Son date night at their restaurant where they had special deals and also had special events going on.  I knew this would be the perfect event to be something special for he and I.  You could tell that he felt so special the whole evening getting alone time with Mommy, especially doing such fun things!  We had a great time!

I am so glad that I made special time for each one of my little men before our newest little guy arrived and it's a good thing I fit these dates in because I went in to labor the very next day after my last Mommy/Son date!
