Life is Precious Week 2 - PLUS a GIVEAWAY!

We are continuing our Life is Precious Unit study this week with studying the book On the Night You Were Born.  This is another book that we have had in our personal library since our oldest was a baby, but it was so much fun to study it more in depth!  Keep reading to see what we did this week and make sure to check out and enter the fantastic giveaway at the end!

We started by reading the story and talking about the beautiful illustrations.  The main points that we wanted to address with this book is for the study are: instilling wonder and awe at the creation of human life, reinforcing the uniqueness of each child and reminding each child of God's immense love for him.

On the first day we studied Being Unique!  We talked about what the word unique means and how each of us are made by God in a special unique way.  We talked about things that make each of us different from everyone else, including our finger prints and started the week's project of making a book about The Night We Were Born.  The first page included each child's unique hand/finger prints and we included the bible verse:

"I praise you, because I am wonderfully made; wonderful are your works!  My very self you know."  -Psalm 139:14

We also worked on the cover pages for our books in which we printed off photos of the very last picture of me with them in my belly and also the very first baby picture of each of them on the day/night they were born.  They loved seeing these special pictures of each of them and comparing how they each looked different!

On the second day we discussed "The Sound of Your Wonderful Name".  We spoke about how each of them were named and the special meanings of their names, including the name we have chosen for our newest little one due to arrive soon.  We also spoke about how and why we celebrate the Saint Feast Days of the special Saints who they were named after!  Read about our Saint Name Celebrations HERE and HERE!  Our youngest son will be celebrating his Saint Feast Name Day this coming weekend as we celebrate St. Luke's Feast Day on October 18th!  This day we also made a special page for our books about each of their names and words and pictures that describe each of them.

The kids celebrating their Saint Feast Name Days!
The third day we discussed How Special Each of us Are!  We made pages for our books about thanking God for all of the special things that he has given each of us and also special things that each of them like!  Our oldest son drew a picture of our home and family and our little guys picked out pictures from magazines and photos to use in a collage!  We also spent time this day coloring and doing activities from the Miracle of Life Coloring Activity Book.

On the last day we discussed What Happened on the Night You Were Born.  We talked about the word "Miracle" and what a miracle that birth is and also each child is.  I have made a baby book for each individual child, and included in their baby books I wrote out their birth stories.  We took time this week to read each of their birth stories to them and talk to them about the day/night that they were born.  We also watched home videos of the days that each of them were born as well!

Oh my goodness, this day made this very pregnant momma very nostalgic about the deliveries of all of our babies and also pretty excited for the next day/night in which our next little one will be born!  Also, to make this this study even more special this week will celebrate our second son's birthday!  He loved being able to focus on his special birth story as we celebrate his special birthday this week.

We had such a fun and fruitful week with this program.  I plan on laminating and using a ring connector with each of the children's finished The Night I Was Born books so that they can keep them as a fun keepsake.  We cannot wait to start with Horton Hears a Who next week and already have some fun things planned!  Stay tuned!

Also, when the Culture of Life Studies Program heard that we were loving their Life is Precious Unit study and talking about it on Children of the Church they graciously offered to participate in a giveaway to give to one lucky reader of Children of the Church the entire Life is Precious Study PLUS their brand new Miracle of Life Coloring and Activity Book (which they also sent a copy of for our family)! Make sure to sign up for the giveaway and this awesome product!  Even if you are not a homeschooling family it is a great product to enhance reading time afterschool or at bedtime.  You still have time to work on it during October, or it is also a fantastic study to complete at any time, especially if you have a new baby joining your family!

  1. I love all the pro-life activities you are doing with your boys! So fun! This program has been on my wish list for awhile so I'm excited to enter this great giveaway! If I won I would look forward to doing the program with all my kids since they all could benefit from it. We have also spiritually adopted babies to pray for in our Teen for Life group so this program would go great with the babies we are praying for!

  4. I love reading all the blogs out there of all these pretend ladies who seem to have it all together and encourage me to do things that might make me feel like I have something together.

But Nicole, you're a real life lady who works so hard to get her babies to Heaven. (Just joking about the other ladies, I know they're real and human too.) You inspire me so much to just put a little extra effort into the important and maybe let the not-so important get lost in the shuffle for once. I love it!

Thank you for your stories that encourage! I'm looking so forward to trying something a little out of the ordinary for us, to focus more on life and the miracle it is, than the fitting so many unimportant things into it.

  6. We have many of these books in our home library already so this program will offer us a new and richer way of looking at them. What a wonderful way to encourage a respect for life at all its stages. Will definitely be incorporating this into our program <3

  12. What a very sweet idea. However, that wouldn't work for our family, since I wasn't there when 3 of our children (2 of my homeschoolers) were born. It's precious and wonderful that you have birth pictures for your children. Not everyone does.
