Give Your Child the World - Our First Four Weeks

We LOVE books and we love learning by reading books together as a family!  So, when we heard about the new book Give Your Child the World:  Raising Globally Minded Kids One Book at a Time we KNEW it would be perfect for our family.  To make it even more fun Simple Homeschool has tons of fun activities to go along with all of the themes of each week for more learning enjoyment.  Here is what we have been reading and doing this summer together!

Multiculturalism

We started off learning about Multiculturalism and we really loved these books.  Our favorite book this week was My Librarian is a Camel.  Our boys loved seeing how different people around the world get their books to read!

Africa

This week we read lots of great books and also did other fun activities!  Our boys LOVED to print the maps from Simple Homeschooling and color in each country that each book talked about throughout the week.  We also watched Disney Nature:  African Cats! We are lucky and our local zoo just opened a new African Grassland exhibit this summer.  We went and checked it out and loved seeing all of the animals that we had been learning about.  To make it even more fun the concession stands sell culturally appropriate African food as well which we tried!

Europe

We loved the books this week about Europe as all of our selections were new books to us!  Our nature loving oldest son loved "In the Belly of an Ox" and to see how nature studies and bird photography first started.  We also really loved Anno's Journey which is all illustrations with no words.  It is amazing to see how much the kids can get out of the story from really studying the images!  We also have been loving all of the little videos from Simple Homeschool, especially the Little Travelers videos which are all free on Amazon Prime!

North America

This week we found a few books that were new to us including a new favorite The Scrambled States of America.  We also pulled out a handful of books that we have in our home library that we read together during our story time.  We also went to the Wildlife and Conservation Park in our hometown which you drive through and get to see lots of animals from North America up close and personal!  It was a lot of fun to add to our learning this week!

We have been having a great time reading and learning and look forward to the last four weeks of Give Your Child the World!
