We love to celebrate the feast days of the Saints whom we named our children after and one of those is St. James the Greater. Our second son is Connor James, and we celebrated and learned more about St. James on his feast day, July 25th. We always like to start our day reading about the Saint of the Day in our Saint book; Saints for Young Readers for Everyday. We also let our children use their special "You Are Special Today" plate on their birthdays, baptism anniversaries and Saint name feast days! They get to do special things throughout the day like choose meals, and get little treats.
After breakfast we went to Mass and our oldest son immediately exclaimed when seeing the priest dressed in red vestments "MOM, he's wearing red today because St. James was a martyr!!!" I love that we are learning together and that between reading about our faith and attending Mass our children are learning about the depth and richness of the Catholic Church and the communion of Saints within it!
After Mass our son was able to open a special little gift which were the next two Chime Travelers books about St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare. We had read the first two books as read alouds together and our son Connor LOVED them! When I saw that the next books in the series included his favorite saint St. Francis I knew that they would be a special little gift for him!
Also, we love to do fun little things to help the kids remember fun facts about people in history and Saints. The kids have been wanting more pets recently and when talking about how St. James was a fisherman this weekend we decided that it would be fun to get some fish of our own! The kids love their new additions to our family!
St. James, pray for us!
