Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus

The Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus is celebrated August 6th and is when as written in Mark 9:2-3 "Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them."

Last year we did this fun activity from Catholic Inspired making a sun catcher to resemble the white light that Jesus shined on the mountain to his disciples.  This was a fun easy craft that we ended up leaving up in our homeschool room as art for most of the year!

 

This year to celebrate and learn about this feast day we pulled out our Art 1 for Young Catholics book this week (which is the Art book for 1st Grade from Seton), which has fantastic art/craft ideas for different feast days throughout the year.  We made a fun icon with Mod Podge and an image of the Jesus at the Transfiguration.  We cannot wait to continue these fun activities throughout the year.

 

 

 

We also read the story of The Transfiguration from Tomie dePaola's Book of Bible Stories which our youngest son received for a Baptismal Anniversary Gift this past year.  We loved this simple story that helped to easily explain such a BIG story!

We also did a few fun activities including a Transfiguration Maze, a Transfiguration Coloring Page, and a fun activity learning about the Transfiguration from the Gospel of Matthew, which we added to our Icon from Seton's Art book!  There are so many fun ways to learn about the Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus and we had a lot of fun exploring a lot of them!

 

Finally, we prayed the rosary, including the Luminous Mysteries which includes the Transfiguration as the 4th mystery!  We hope that you all have a wonderful day celebrating the Feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus!
